What was Russian peasant life like around 1880?

Under the Czarist rule of mid 19th century Russia a system of intense stratification created a culture of conflict, disparity, and unrest. This was in many ways the root of what would eventually lead to revolution, civil war, the rise of the Bolsheviks, and ultimately the Soviet Union under Communist control.
