Twelve year old at an anime convention?

I am taking my niece who is twelve to an anime convention. This is our first anime convention. I was just curious if that is an appropriate environment for a twelve year old. I don't mind if there are some suggestive stuff being that she is extremely mature for age, but I want to know people wise if it is a good environment. I am just concerned for her safety.
