Why are theists always so obsessed with people who 'died for their beliefs?' dont they value this life ever?

I'd die for my friends and family. I don't think that shows that someone doesn't value their life. I certainly don't respect this very nebulous "die for your beliefs" thing. I don't respect it as much as I do respecting someone who is willing to die for the greater goods, for something tangible, not for a God who didn't need your blood shed in the first place.
